Nephrological Marker

The antibody reacts specifically with nephrin, first described as a kidney podocyte marker protein, and stains positively podocytes of the kidney, radial glial cells of the brain, Sertoli cells of testis, and beta islet cells of the pancreas. Directed against the intracellular domain.

Recognizes differentiated glomerular visceral epithelial cells (podocytes) in vivo and in vitro. Weaker additional reaction with arterial endothelial cells.

Uroplakin, a membrane glycoprotein, has been shown to be a specific marker of terminal urothelial differentiation. No uroplakin staining is found in non-urothelial carcinoma.
